Patterns and relationship of dyslipidemia with hypertensionin middle-aged people
Summary:
Dyslipidemia can lead to atherosclerosis
and subsequent clogged arteries; and thereby
it causes hypertension. The study focused on
the patterns and relationship of dyslipidemia
with hypertension in middle-aged people.
The results showed that dyslipidemia is a
common metabolic disorder in patients with
hypertension (83.3%) and its prevalence increased
by age. Dyslipidemia was found to be the risk
factor for hypertension (β=0.359, p=0.014). This
association was significantly stronger in women
than in men. Increased components of dyslipidemia
were associated with increased risk of hypertension
(β=0.174, p=0.0001). Among components of
dyslipidemia (elevated total cholesterol, increased
triglyceride, raised LDL-C and decreased HDL-C),
decreased HDL-C had the strongest association with
hypertension (β=0.378,p=0.001), taken into account
the adjustment of age, gender, residence and body
mass index. The above patterns should be considered
in prospective studies to confirm the hypothesis
that decreased HDL-C is the most important risk
factor among dyslipidemia components in the
pathogenesis of hypertension and therapy
target.
