Summary:
This study was conducted to examine the mor-bidity of dysentery including amoeba dysentery
and bacillary dysentary in the eight representa-tive provinces of ecological regions of Vietnam
and the correlation between numbers of cases
of dysentery and weather factors in these prov-inces, including Thai Nguyen, Yen bai, Quang
binh, Binh thuan, Gia lai, Can tho and Binh du-ong. Data of dysentary cases and weather factors
of average temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind
speed and sunny hours during ten years of 2002-2011 were collected and analysed. Numbers of
rabies cases, morbidity/100000 people/year, au-tocorrelation of numbers of cases by lag time and
correlation coefficient Spearman‘ r of numbers
of rabies cases and weather factors were calcu-lated. Results: During ten years of 2002-2011, the
highest numbers of amoeba and bacillary dys-entary cases and morbidity were observed in Gia
Lai (82,6 cases/100.000 people/year and162,2
cases/100.000 people/year), the lowest number
of amoeba dysentery morbidity was observed
in Can Tho (1 case/100.000 people/year)and the
lowest number of bacillary dysentery morbidity
was found in Thai Nguyen (0.9 case/100.000 peo-ple/year). There have been statistical significant
autocorrelations between amoeba dysentery cases
by lag time of first month in 5/8 provinces, and
statistical significant autocorrelations between bac-illary dysentery cases by lag time in all eight study
sites. Among five weather factors, there have been
at least one weather factor correlated significantly
with numbers of rabies cases in the period of 2002-2011 (p<0.05) at 6/8 study sites. However, the
correlation coefficient of the relationship between
weather factors and numbers of dysentary cases
was low (r<0.40). Therefore, the correlation be-tween weather factors and numbers of dysentary
cases in ten years was weak.
