Summary:
Enterovirus (EV) cause hand, foot and
mouth disease (HFMD) especially among
young children. Enterovirus 71 (EV71) and
coxsackievirus A16 (CA16) are two serotypes
of enterovirus commonly associate with HFMD
outbreaks. In recent years others EV serotypes
have been linked to HFMD such as coxsackievirus
A10 (CA10), coxsackievirus A6 (CA6). The
study aimed to determine CA16, CA10 and
CA6 from 375 clinical specimens were detected
as enterovirus positive (non Enterovirus 71)
which were diagnosed further by the multiplex
RT - PCR assay. The results showed that CA10
accounted for 11.47% (n = 43), CA16 accounted
for 7.47% (n = 28) and CA6 accounted for the
lowest rate of 3.47% (n = 13). In central Vietnam,
the circulation of these agents causing hand, foot
and mouth outbreaks occured in summer in 2016
with CA10 predominating in May and June. The
major sensitive age group of children under 2
accounted for 90.48%. There was difference in
morbidity rate between boys and girls (p<0.05).
It is necessary to surveillance CA16, CA10 and
CA6 for supporting and enhancing prevention
HFMD.
